Digital Trapline Releases Digital Literacy Programming
Reimagined radio in NWT!
May 27, 2021
Digital Trapline is hosted by Norbert Poitras and Chris Hunt on CKLB Radio in Yellowknife (101.9 FM) every Friday from 5:10pm - 6:00pm!
Digital Trapline has released 10 weekly episodes on CKLB Cabin Radio so far, and they have no signs of slowing down.
The radio show is co-hosted by Norbert Poitras and Chris Hunt, and focuses on different weekly themes related to digital connectivity, digital literacy, and stories of digital innovation.
Norbert says, “We kind of have this thing where we’re bouncing ideas off of each other, so it’s great when we’re doing this show.”
Chris recalls pitching the show, saying, “I’ll never forget the day Norbert and I walked into CKLB’s office, and they said, ‘This is unbelievable, we love it. How about you start Friday?’”
The show invites two or more guests, and makes a point to feature different musicians from across the Northwest Territories.
Norbert’s background goes decades into musicianship and being a radiohost. He says, “It’s been great because musicians try to stay current as well. So it becomes a great interview that way, you find out who these musicians are and how they stay current!”
Norbert says that him and Chris bounce off of each other’s energies.
In future plans, Digital Trapline is considering ways to deliver digital literacy courses remotely, despite the data caps and high costs to access internet.
Waxing the potential of their radio show to promote digital literacy, Chris says, “This branches off of digital trapline, breaking off the tension, and going into entertainment aspects. But it’s peer learning — whether it’s around coding perhaps to start, whether it’s design, or around a specific piece of technology — almost like our workshops.
“It’s amazing how creative we can be as human beings to translate the visual into the audio,” adds Chris.
Digital Trapline is hosted on CKLB Radio, in Yellowknife on 101.9 FM and on other channels across the North, every Friday from 5:10pm - 6:00pm. Episodes are also hosted online at soundcloud.com/digitaltrapline
Digital Trapline is joined and supported by partner organizations and their members, including DigitalNWT, Smart Communities, Communities for Schools, and the University of Alberta.
