How to participate
Getting involved only takes a few minutes of your time. Your results help all of us paint a better picture of what internet is really like in the NWT. Your engagement contributes to creating a better, more-connected future for internet access & speed in the NWT.

Use the provided link to access the CIRA speed test. You can also use a low bandwidth version at the bottom of this page.
2. Record your results
Use your phone or take a screen capture of results.
3. Share your results
Share the photo on our Facebook Group (NWT Digital Divide) and/or on Twitter (#NWTDigitalDivide).

We want to know what's really going on
Many residents of NWT communities face extremely slow and expensive Internet. According to Internet Performance Testing run by the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), Internet speeds in these northern and remote communities are among the slowest in Canada.
But despite everyone knowing about slow Internet speeds, there is limited reliable information available about user-level connectivity services in NWT communities.
Help policy makers make the right decisions
The lack of data makes it difficult for policy makers and researchers to identify which communities — and which homes and organizations inside those communities — are facing these challenges.

Entering your information
CIRA's Internet Performance Test will ask you to provide details about your postal code, Internet Service Provider (ISP), and monthly plan (e.g. cost & data caps).
This information will help researchers and government understand the speed and cost of your internet service.
Understanding the results
After running the test, check the map to compare the results to other communities in the NWT.

Taking action & getting heard
If you are not satisfied with your internet performance, contact your ISP.
Tell them that you are expecting better results, and are being affected by a slow internet connection. They may be able to help improve your speed.
